The 04 ZX10R hasn't turned a wheel in over 12 months due to injury. Having had a knee operation a few weeks ago, plus having three shattered vertebrae and prolapsed disks to boot (thankfully not from a body-hard object interface courtesy of the Kwak) I find myself on the horns of a dilemna!
I have a ZRX1100 for pillion carrying, which whilst comfortable is slow, heavy and a tad cumbersome. I also have the C1 ZX10R, which is - as you all know - perfect in every way, aside from the fact that it hurts my increasingly knackered bones.
So, I have a couple of choices. The first is to flog the two of them off and look for something that combines the outrageous grunt of the 10R with a better riding position. I've looked around and nothing is jumping out at me.
The second is to do something radical with the 10R. I am cack-handed, so any advanced spannering is out of my comfort zone. I could chuck some money the way of a builder if I could find on that didn't specialise in HDs or formulaic streetfighters.
Anyone ever considered a scrambler-type ZX10R? It would be funny, but would it be possible?
I've had a nose around, but the bike builder scene seems to have imploded. Has the recession driven decent bike builders to the wall, so they're all working in coffee shops which used to be banks/pubs?
Any thoughts welcomed, because I'm concerned that if I sell her I might well live to regret it, but I'd regret not riding her even more...
