What to do?
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:10:52 PM »

The 04 ZX10R hasn't turned a wheel in over 12 months due to injury. Having had a knee operation a few weeks ago, plus having three shattered vertebrae and prolapsed disks to boot (thankfully not from a body-hard object interface courtesy of the Kwak) I find myself on the horns of a dilemna!

I have a ZRX1100 for pillion carrying, which whilst comfortable is slow, heavy and a tad cumbersome. I also have the C1 ZX10R, which is - as you all know - perfect in every way, aside from the fact that it hurts my increasingly knackered bones.

So, I have a couple of choices. The first is to flog the two of them off and look for something that combines the outrageous grunt of the 10R with a better riding position. I've looked around and nothing is jumping out at me.

The second is to do something radical with the 10R. I am cack-handed, so any advanced spannering is out of my comfort zone. I could chuck some money the way of a builder if I could find on that didn't specialise in HDs or formulaic streetfighters.

Anyone ever considered a scrambler-type ZX10R? It would be funny, but would it be possible?

I've had a nose around, but the bike builder scene seems to have imploded. Has the recession driven decent bike builders to the wall, so they're all working in coffee shops which used to be banks/pubs?

Any thoughts welcomed, because I'm concerned that if I sell her I might well live to regret it, but I'd regret not riding her even more...

What he said  :iamwithstupid:

The 14 would be my next bike (if I could afford one that is) Having suffered a spinal injury myself as much as I love my first gen 10R it isn't the comfiest ride for my creaking bones.  :icon_thumleft:

I have a passion for the gen1 also and if I was in your shoes I would street fighter my c1h , raise the bars lower the pegs and give it that element of comfort without the sacrifice of its awesome power and sharp handling .

This is what I am planning, my bike was in track trim until April this year when I mot'd, taxed and insured it but I havent managed 500 miles all year and put it down to the fact that whilst in sportbike trim its putting me off as its too focused on going fast and I struggle to resist that, plus the fact that the metalwork in my body seems to ache more as i get older is making me wanting something like that above.

I really love the look of the later tail on your bike Dave and will probably be pinching that idea :) , I just need to decide on the front end look and I will be on my way, my son has asked me what I want for my birthday at the end of the month and didnt raise an eyebrow when I said an ABN top yoke so that maybe the start of my plans, I am hoping to do it so it can be put back into track or sportsbike trim without too much hassle, although fancy the idea of a trackday with wide bars :)
