So...... with the fiasco going on in Cyprus at the moment which, potentially, means "normal savers" could be taxed on the money they have in the bank, where does that leave people in the likes of Spain and Italy ?

Surely anyone with money in the banks of those two countries, if they've any sense, will start withdrawing it and keeping it under the bed. I certainly would.

BUT, that in itself will surely cause the banking systems to implode even further.

You'd have thought the "clever people" that included the small print, that stipulated savers will be taxed on savings, would have foreseen what sort of fallout would, or could, happen in other struggling countries.

Who knows, maybe that was the plan when it was announced.

all I know is my inlaws in Cyprus are struggling like fuck to get hold of their money and the grandmother is even worse as she is one of those who cant get her pension either.

Its hard to understand how a whole country can get in this state and the concept of the whole country going bankrupt blows my simple mind

Today's decision will probably lead to lots of 'dirty' money being removed from eurozone accounts. Or people will buy property instead of having money sat in an unsafe bank account, which will create another unsustainable property boom...
