Modifications:- is this normal?
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:52:21 PM »

Bearing in mind that the current ZX10R is arguably at the pinnacle of over the counter Japanese motorcycles. Why do we fiddle with them?
I was chatting to another 10 owner at the local bike meet about the little odds and sods we had done to our bikes and what trinkets we fitted and it turns out that I have quite a list. I would have bet good money that I had only put a couple of stickers and a pipe on it.
Instead, this is my little list...
GBRacing engine covers,
Evotech spindle bobbins,
Evotech Tail Tidy,
Evotech Radiator Guard,
Captive Wheel Spacers,
16T front sprocket,
Stomp Grips,
Arrow Decat and Silencer,
K&N air and oil filters,
Servo Buddy,
Smoked Powerbronze screen,
Powerbronze carbon fibre heel guards.
Shimmed  rear shock. (+7mm ride height)
Ivans wire mod.
Kawasaki green stainless brake lines front and rear (to be fitted)
Bridgestone 003rs.

What's yours?

You're right that there is technically absolutely nothing wrong with a new bike over the counter. The reason I suspect most people mod bikes is to make it 'theirs' instead of being standard.  :dontknow:

Bike manufacturers need to make a bike that will appeal to as wide an audience as possible so they sell well, you've got to remember there's an awful lot of people out there buying bikes who don't know one end from the other and for example not everyone would be able to ride with things like a quick action throttle, you'd have fellas looping it before they get out of the dealer car park!

Crash protection is a must ,  the exhaust is changed because it's heavy and ugly  because of the std emission requirements they have to meet. Gearing is also related to emissions. Tyres are a personal pref
Braided lines should be fitted as std though and a seat cowl should be supplied with the bike imho.

For most of us the bikes are plenty fast enough

I like spending money (retail therapy!) and I love quality components particularly that upgrade, look better, are lighter etc etc. I posted all my mods previously on a thread titled "Disgusting filth".......It says it all really  B-)

its all about personalising the bike as we don't want to have a bike that's the same as the next one, however we do all modify dependant on funds available and would all end up in the same place

I modded my '05 quite a lot after buying it stating clearly that there was no need to modify it ..................

Afterall "that's how we roll"
