Carbon Frame Protectors
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:50:09 PM »

Does anyone have any experience of using carbon frame protectors (not crash bungs) the formed type that mount over frame spars. Do they offer much protection to the frame, thoughts please?

Yep, have saved the frame of a bike I stuffed into a gravel trap from the dreaded gravel rash (can't say the same for the rest of the bike). Might help a bit to stop a bar-end denting the frame etc but I wouldn't of thought they'd stand up to a proper direct hit. Really they just either save or improve the aesthetics, and the latter is debatable.
If you're prone to scratching up black bike frames they'd be useful.

Yep, pretty much as I thought, thanks bud. How have you mounted them, double sided pads?

You can use double sided pads yeah, like the ones for sticking on car number plates, alternatively stick a good bead of clear silicon sealant on them and tie them on until it's dry, that sticks em as well as anything else and easier to remove too.
