From recent experience, please don't use Hastings Direct. Despite being fully comp, and having a 3rd party pull out from a side road into the side of my girlfriends car and the 3rd party admitting liability, I personally have had to fight to get any sort of payout from the 3rd party, hastings simply offered my girlfriend 50% of the market value of her car and said take it or fight the claim yourself. Shocking service, and i'd hate for anyone else to have to go through the same. Today, they took away the hire car, but they won't release her car so we can arrange for it to be repaired ourselves for the next 7 days!

Yes, they have, and we're on the case, but they're not open at weekends!!

whoever you deal with, be it your insurance company or the third party, you will have to justify how you have valued the vehicle more. If you disagree with the Insurance engineers valuation, then try and prove them wrong, get some adverts of similar condition make, model and year of your girlfriends car and send it to them which will then give your insurance companies engineer a reason to hopefully justify increasing his valuation.

If the third party has nothing you'll risk getting nothing or lots of hard work making a claim direct with the Third Parties Insurance company.

If you have decided to withdraw your claim from your insurers they will take the hire car back as they will loose the opportunity of reclaiming the cost from the third party.

well they certainly do seem to be being unfair by not offering any other options other than take it or leave it and not even trying to justify their valuation to you. Probably someone dealing with it that's got a lot to learn and not doing Hastings any favours.

Good luck sorting it all out, and hope it all works out in the end. its a nightmare at the best of times and something I'm sure you could do without.

Any shit with insurance just call in the insurance ombudsman , they kick their arse good style usually
