Empty tank :(
« on: September 14, 2012, 08:24:20 PM »

Soooooo..... I ran out of fuel yesterday morning on the way to work. I'm not so much bothered by the 2 miles push, I need the exercise, more pissed off that all the local petrol stations decide to close for refitting at the same time, therefore forcing me to try my luck at the station off the next motorway junction. Oh well.

I have also learnt 3 things on this little cock-up - textile jeans do not breath\waterproof well when the sweat's on the inside, bike cops (one stopped to see if I was alright) will not let you syphon fuel out of their tank - to be fair the guy was ok with it but had to check with his Sarge who said no - so no luck there, and although not one car stopped to see if they could offer help which I pretty much expected, I didn't get one horn beep or shouted "wanker" either, which I did, so blimey people really are indifferent nowadays ain't they.

Only an hour late to work too, bargain  [whistle]

Realised after he'd gone out the next session so had pulled it through the fuel lines the lot...

Well that's just it innit, could indeed of been worse. The beauty fired up immediately when filled too so no bother there either. I was most nonchalant throughout, very odd for me  :glasses9:

I ran out of petrol in similar circumstances not long ago, coasted to a halt on the hard shoulder ,ended up behind a young guy who had a puncture on his way to the Mosque who had'nt a clue how to change his tyre on his smart new BMW, so I did that for him, After thanking me off he drove,me thinking that was it ,but no after about half an hours push he pulled up behind me with a new jerrycan with enough fuel for 10 trackdays and enough pop and chocolates to last me years, also he'd driven about 15 miles back onto the motorway in the opposite direction and back to get to me! I was late for work and he was late for prayers at the Mosque but could have been worse, so there are some decent folks on the road in cars   [clap] :-O

Hate it when this happens back in the day when I had my first zx9r the fuel tap was turned and I didn't relies at the time it was on reserve :( first the bike started to lose power and a car nearly ran me over so I had to push the bike to a safe place off the road. In full leathers and the old zx9r was pig heavy. Parked it up at a gate then when I was walking away the bike started to move :( side stand sunk in gravel bike fell over with me under it when I tried to cushion the fall. Bike was ok I ended up with sore ribs after a few minutes later a lad stopped in a car and took me to a petrol station then back to the bike and got her going again. Got home safe and sound after all my hardship.
