Falling out of love with road riding?
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:47:45 PM »

Back in 2008, I had the bike of my dreams, a beautiful ZX10R C2H. It was the first thousand I'd ever owned and was a beautiful bike. As well as bombing around the fens and down the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline I took it to Europe for a very memorable week trip round Germany, France with my brother on his RSV. They were good times...

However, all good things must come to and end and I was offered a job for a year in Brazil which I really had to take. As I had nowhere to keep it I sold the bike. :(

Fast forward a couple of years, and upon my return to England one of my first priorities was of course to get another bike. For me there was no real choice. It had to be another Kwak so I got another tidy C1H. I spent the next year getting it just how I wanted it, and after a fair bit of work and a fair amount of money spent I have the bike I sold back in 2008 plus a bit more.

Here's the problem though... and where I need some advice. Having just recently re-insured the bike at the start of the month and starting to hoon around my native fen roads it somehow feels different. It's not the bike, it's me. Somehow I'm not enjoying riding on the roads as much anymore. The combination of too much traffic, crappy roads and paranoia about plod catching me doing something I shouldn't be doing have conspired to make the experience far less enjoyable. All I can now think about is buying a track bike and selling the bike I have spent the last year sorting out. The money side of things doesn't bother me, but I'd hate to make a decision I regretted.

So...sell the bike and get a track bike or keep it?

Any advice or opinions very welcome!

Cheers

I know just how you feel, I spent January and February rebuilding my 06, it now goes and stops better than ever before, I get to go into Wales and along some glorious roads at mad speeds but , but . . . . I really think I enjoyed the rebuild more than riding these days, maybe its a boredom thing but I really feel like selling both bikes and starting again with another project (2 or 4 wheeled) . Very odd !

The 10s are just too quick to have regular, decent fun on the road, you need something slower that gives more fun at less than licence-losing speeds.  Maybe keep the 10 for the track now it's the way you like it.

I've just sold my 'barra and got a nice gen 3 Z1000, it's like a mad armchair compared with the 10, but the power is more real-world friendly.

Once you've gone track you never go back!   The 10 is way too much for the road ..... I tracked mine and have never regretted it ..... I got a Shiver for the road and although I love it I have done less than 500 miles in the year ....... done over 1000 on the track!
