06 Refresh
« on: February 15, 2012, 04:43:14 PM »

Decided as my tax was up at the end of January to finally fit an 08 arm and get rid of the 'raw titanium' paint and go for the green, once into it I realised that my 'new' bike was showing the scars of 4 winters, decided to powder the wheels, subframe and a few other parts that were beginning to look tatty. Cleaned up all the casting marks on the wheels and sub frame before powder and replaced as many of the corroded fasteners for stainless. The back of the engine was in worse condition than I thought with flaking paint and corrosion so that too was re done, nearly there now with the chassis and just waiting for tyres and then its onto prepping the bodywork for a lick of green. Only thing that concerns me slightly is the shock being close to the swingarm brace  :-(, thought the only extra part needed for this conversion was an 08 rear caliper bracket?? anyone else done this conversion on an 06 ?  I realised that the 08 dogbones are longer than the 06 so stuck with the 06 ones.   :-S

good work mate ....yes hammy done his 06/07 and i done my 04/05 ...and tony83 done his
you have some choice-es to go with on the shock ...a standard 04/05 or 08/09 shock or if you go with some aftermarket stuff you may have to see if they fit first ? but you would be best to ask the wise old hammy first mate he knows he's stuff  :icon_thumright:

Nice sticky race tecs turned up today, fitted them and the brakes and wheels, sorted a new 08 rear brake line and made up a nylon spacer and p clip. Just paint to finish now . . . . . .

Looking real good with the 08 swing arm. Whats the benefits to be had with the 08 arm? Or is it just for looks? Could fancy that upgrade on me 07 Barra. :tongue2:

Adds almost 40mm to the wheelbase increasing stability.

Is that also the case for an 05 also Hammy, had always been under the impression that it shortened the wheelbase but only what I thought I read somewhere, dont have a clue myself

Lookin good Andi, looking forward to seeing the colour chance as I would like to do he same to my brown one  :icon_thumright:

Same effective length on the 04/05 but ratio is different on linkage and dogbones. Makes it far more linear and nowhere near as harsh.
06/07 arm is 2 links shorter so shortens the wheelbase. A lot of the Yanks have fitted the 06/07 arm into the 04/05 as it comes up similar to the Factory arm in looks.

I did it cos an arm turned up for good money , I was planning to strip the 06 arm (might still do it) but thought it would make a change fitting the 08.  ;-)
