Front wheel nut
« on: February 05, 2012, 01:20:26 PM »

So I was sorting out the front and back wheel spindles for re plating, I usually do this with a wire brush in a drill but this time they didn't polish up that good (more polished they are the better the final result) I was given a bottle of Metal bright by a friend who works on ships so I gave them a 5 min dip, this stuff took the original plating straight off and turned the steel a dark grey that then polished up great with a scotch pad, funny thing is that the front wheel nut once stripped of its bright zinc appears to be stainless steel ?? It came out of the metal bright totally mint and didn't turn grey like the spindles. Is there anyway I can check it is stainless (before my visit to the plater tomorrow) ? It is magnetic but so are a lot of my other stainless bolts . . . . bit puzzled as to why a stainless nut would be plated, any help would be appreciated  ;-)

sorry dont have an answer to your question but wher eowuld one get hold of metal bright?

Also how much does it cost you to take it to the platers to get those bits done? Wouldnt mind getting a few of my parts re-plated.
