new paintwork
« on: February 03, 2013, 05:57:05 PM »

update chaps:

after many sleepless nights and hours trawling the web for ideas, i finally decided on how i was going to do it, , i looked back at the old pic of the bike realised that not only were the shades of green different,  they didint line up on the panels properly,i,e the green on the nose is the opposite way round to the green on the tank

So i had to work the paint in a way that it will flow accross the bike from front to back.
1st up is primer and then the base kawasaki Lime green paint on all the panels, then mask up the sections i want to stay green

Now all the inserts are painted green and masked up, On with the black base paint, this in theory should make the Green inserts stand out more than if they were just painted  one colour

3 coats of black base paint and then allow to dry a little before removing the masking paper to reveal the green inserts

Next up should be the clearcoat while the basecoat is tacky, but i still have to add some blue to the belly pan and then the decals before putting on the clearcoat, so will have to let these dry, add the others bits and then scotchbrite the whole lot to give it a little key for the clearcoat to bond too.

more pics soon when i get the fairing complete.

thanks again for your comments chaps :thum_1:

Thanks Andy :icon_thumright:

Its all in clearcoat now chaps and drying on the clothes airer in the kitchen

i fitted all the panels on the bike and decided to leave the belly pan as it is, when i did the design i allowed for black wheels, frame, mudguard end engine, so the green tied in really nice.
will be stickering it up today with blue pin stripe seat foam etc

now to decice on blue or red numbers?

Looks peachy that fella :icon_thumleft:

Right, been hard at it today fitting the panels,
I've fitted most of the decals, but nothing on the tank yet as its got a little dust dried onto the clearcoat, so gonna leave it till sunday so its fully cured enough to wet flat it back and polish it. then i can finish the tank decals and stomp grips.

all the other panels have come up a treat straight out of the gun, so have fitted all the other decals, still got the number boards to do, but not decided on the colour of the numbers yet.

some upto date pics of the progress today.

Excuse the pic whoring... just really happy with the finish so far and appreciate the comments
