hi guys thought i would make a start on spraying the trackbike panels,
done the first coat and it looked good and i was thinking theres nothing to this spraying lark, so after about 5mins i started on the second coat, and thats when it went down hill, after i finished the second coat within 5mins it all started to run  . so!!
1, how long between coats do i have to leave it
2, do i sand the runs out with 400 wet and dry
3, after i finish the base coats how long before i can put the clear coat on.
i'm using 2parts paint to 1part d-thiners

jeffboyo1, first let the runs totally dry before sanding them out, or 'carefully' wipe back with thinners so the coats you previously put on are totally removed.
Second, doesn't always matter how long you leave between coats if you have a hair-dryer. Best bet is to put on a nice thin coat, then hair-dryer on a low setting, then another thin coat, then hair-dryer and so on and so until you have a nice even coat. Always spray about 20-30cm's away from the panel, and first coat should be side to side, then second coat top to bottom, and run the hair-dryer over each coat on a low setting about the same distance away. Repeat this for each application and DON'T TOUCH IT to see if it's dry, just leave it alone, this take a little time so don't rush it.
Oh and wear a mask as the sprays ain't very nice to breathe in.

thanks mate , i had a mask on , so after the hairdryer has been over it can i put another coat on straight away then, or leave it for 5mins after hair dryer.

five mins is ok I guess, remember........thin coats and repeat until covered.

hi mate the hair dryer worked a treat, my prep work could of been a bit better tho, but its only for the track so not to botherd, have a pony for you trubble. just got to put the clear coat on tomoro then ready for the decals..

always a much better finish with the clearcote on after decals have been applied i think.

hi mate will the clearcoat cover the decals ok tho cos they plastic stuff....

The laquer will be fine over the decals, however it does mean you can't remove them because they will be 'sealed' in.

Yep, Terry is right! they will be sealed in and permanent, but will be far easier to keep clean and won,t start peeling at edges over time. Make your first cote of laquer a mist coat over them ( very light coat) to start with so as to not make them peel at edges.

thats ok cos wont need to remove them unless i bin the bike on the track

No, i wouldn,t use any heat for the decals ( unless you want to remove them) they are self adhesive so just stick em in position and laquer them over. I,m no expert but when i sprayed my bike i used 50/50 mix of paint to thinners and could apply each coat at 15- 20 min intervals. (same goes for laquer)

so when i put the 1st coat over the decal i cant use the hair dryer, and not on any of the other coats , cos the decals could lift.

Not 100% shure if the heat would make them curl, but i wouldn,t risk it.
