newbe here, zx10 info required

Hi everyone, im soon getting an 05 zx10 and im after some info please,
Firstly frame cracking, by the engine mounting bracket, is this common?
Secondly the poor brakes, I was thinking r1 05 master and calipers will fix them?!?!
Also will 2008 bodywork fit on the 05 at all?
Its gonna be a road legal track bike.

I've only heard that cracking is common on those that have been dropped. If its been treated right it should be fine.

Poor brakes.  As far as I understand it, its a mismatch between the ratios of the MC and the Calipers.  Some have changed the MC with good results, where as I went for some '09 ZX6R calipers, which are a direct bolt on and they arenow amazing using the stock MC.  I even had the ZX6R MC but decided against using it as the calipers made all the difference I needed.

R1 calipers will need spacers as far as I'm aware  B-)

Wheelies are the cause of the cracking.
As for the bodywork - why? If you want an 08, buy one.
You can make it fit BUT you will need the tank, rear subframe and all of the bracketry, etc. Everything is different.

bikes only done 4k and bodywork is mint so wanted to buy track fairings but 08 look nicer imo so wondered if they would fit

Track is easier but all the mounting points are different.
Biggest issue will be the seat unit as the 08 has a 2 piece subframe and the race unit does away with the rear section.

Stick with 05 bodywork is my opinion they are very different

As Hammy says, the cracking could be bad wheelies/abuse or in fact a crash as many have reported the frame cracking along the welds.

surely it's a cat c if its been recorded as damaged only, get it checked over though as there may be more damage than you've initially seen

I changed to a Brembo master cylinder leaving everything else standard and the brakes are awesome ..... very few things can ever outbreak me on trackdays.  If they are really bad then I would change the fluid & check the pads ..... mine as standard were great except for the excessive fade when they got hot .... DOT5 fluid seemed to reduce that.
