Whilst I was lined up in the paddock the other day awaiting to go out on my track session I noticed the rider in front of me on an R1 had a racetec rear tyre on backwards. I hopped off to ask him if he was aware it was on backwards to which he stated he was and wanted to get his monies worth out of the tyre. He didn't seem to have any problems with handling though he wasn't the quickest rider.
My question is this, is it safe to do that? My instinct would say not?

Its not really recommended, only on the very (very) small off chance the opposite rotation will pull the join of the tyre apart.

But basically yea its fine its a good way to get much more milage out of tyres.

done it with racetech's and supercorsa's no bother in fact the tyre bloke at waddington turned a supercorsa for me

when i changed my tyres recently i took loose wheels in to get the tyres fitted and when remounting them didnt check the DOT arrow just mounted em the way i thought looked right (which in the case of the front was wrong)

the bike didnt handle very well at all it didnt like going in streight lines it wanted to be leaned over the whole time so i ended up riding up the road weeving was a very strange feeling and i wouldnt like to have to be thinking about that whilst out on track, although reversing the rear may be differant
