that went to bloody fast!
« on: September 18, 2011, 07:52:05 AM »

well chaps thats my alps trip finished and now looking forward to planning one next year  :headbang:
we spent 5 days riding those bloody lovely roads i did not want to come back, if anyone is doing it soon check out the col de vars its basically a racetrack up a mountain and its bloody brilliant. the original plan was to do switzerland after the alps then austria then germany but we got a bit lost in the moment in the alps and ended up staying there all week but it was definantly worth the sore butt and aching wrists. we done all of the route napolian but the second half from digne les bains is the best section by far!
so the first day we headed for lyon and made it that was the first day.

second day we headed for the route napolian and made it halfway down.

third day we done the second half from digne les bains to monaco hoping to ride the gp circuit but it was far to hot and stupidly busy so we headed for the col de turini

fourth to sixth day got pretty lost doing all the passes we could theres so many and most of them were awesome or had awesome roads going to or coming from them

by the sixth night we ended up staying in nancy

seventh day we headed through luxembourg then belgium stopped at brugge to get the missis some chocolates  :icon_thumright: them we had the only bit of crap weather all week so waterproofs on then headed for the train and got home last night

had a wicked time and would definantly do it again sorry if you found it boring reading though this but i just want to let everyone no it is something you must do if your a biker
oh and one last thing we done it all on 600 quid  :dontknow:

Bloody brilliant. We did the alps back in June and it was the best thing I've ever done in my entire life!

I have no idea exactly which passes/cols we did, but I do know they were fantastic.  I bet at least a few were the same ones that you did!

Did you stay in hotels? Did you have them all booked up first before you left or did you do it 'on the hoof'?

We're also planning our next one but possibly looking at the Pyrannees instead :D

yeah we probably did mate, we done 5 days straight at campsites then the last 2 days in hotels, to be honest we were struggling to find hotels as its now closed season and there all getting ready for the skiing season.
so no there was plenty of hotels and campsites about we would just start looking at about 5 o'clock each day and we always found one. we nearly got caught out once when we headed for a town called oyonnax which was like bayrute its a rite shithole!

yeah do the pyrannees its also brilliant for me the alps was better but i do think you need to do the pyrennees and make your own opinion  :icon_thumleft: you will love it, if you do it head into andorra for a night or two its got some lovely roads going to it and coming out  :headbang:

:headbang: Agree about the 2nd half been the better...plus rolling down into Monaco aint a bad way to finish & stop for a beer.
