Nurburgring ZX10R vs CLK DTM
« on: July 05, 2007, 05:31:38 PM »

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x123d4_nurburgring-zx10r-vs-clk-dtm

The 10 backs off at a couple of points so i think he is trying to shoot a video of the CLK rather than racing it.  Does well though considering how brutal the ring is on bikes.

my guess is that he just didn't wanna push to try and pass in an area that he wasn't able to cleanly pass in. so he backed out, just as a bit of courtesy as to not run up on the CLK's ass.

yeah i kinda agree. to me just looks like he was fixated on keeping up with him, not overtaking him. there were ample clean places to overtake which he could have done, but its easy to switch off when youre following something and i think thats why it took him so long. this is something ive learnt this year, big style. i had big problems transferring from track day/road rider on track. all your riding/driving life, you are taught to accommodate other drivers/riders by anticipating them. its a different thing to ignore that and constantly be looking for the spaces they leave rather than the space they take up.

just dont know if it was intentional or not. id say not. seems like an experienced track dayer to me, not a racer. a racer would naturally sit in the overtaking positions, even if he didnt use them. this guy didnt.

Was there this summer, the cars will scare the shit out of you.  The bikes will NEVER beat the cars there, FACT. The lap records prove it. Bikes are second rate there and the cars have right of way whether you like it or not. They WILL make you move over or take you out. Happened to a brit on a K5 while we were there. Old Talbot Sunbeam, fully tricked moved him over mid corner when he didn't check his mirrors. Have footage of our laps from our cams showing how the cars don't give a shit.
Worth going as the palce is unreal. Talk to Kev at Wheeltrax, if you want a fookin great time out there as his knowledge of the roads and the ring is first class. The guy runs 9min laps on a standard Bandit! His toy is a tricked Street triple with more "special" parts than are on most track racers. I defy anyone to keep up with him on it. His corner speed is ridiculously fast.
Check out www.wheeltrax.com
The guy is first class and a good mate to boot.
Not jealous..........Honest

when we went to the ring we stayed at a guest house rumoured to be run by  "the barron".

as far as cars go they come a distant second to him as he can do it in 7m32secs on his R1.
the guy is an awsome rider.

his mrs can do it in just over 8mins on her R1.

Helmut Dahne, Metzlers PR guy used to compete there back in the day when the ring was open for competition.. ran a record at the time, 7:49 on an old ass Honda RC30 back in 1993.

the guy would be a fuckin force on one of the current gen bikes, there.

best time was 9min 40secs...wont set the world on fire but fuck...it felt good
