Yeah ive heard they are bad for that but i thought the cops did sussy mods to them to prevent this from happening. I think its due to the weight they carry more than the bike itself.

sad to read of such a horrible accident..... can't see it being a Honda issue, more of a modification problem , it takes the smallest thing to go wrong at high speed and some bad luck to follow, poor fella

if you put that much weight on a bike its bound not to like it espc at high speed all the weight at the back of the bike as well might be something to do with the wind and the boxes on the back ?

i think that explains why i saw a copper yesterday on a battered old police bmw, riding along. though it was a bit old....

loads of em use the yamaha flr1300's or bmws dont they.....

could be one of many things. aerodynamics could be an issue, as they stick all sort on em (lights, sirens etc) its a pity, but surely they should do this sort of riding on a track.....

He was on a training run, it's got to be done on public roads because the instructor needs to see response to real world situations and ensure it's ridden to the Police 'system'  and safe for the public. Let's be honest 110 mph on a motorway shouldn't have been a problem should it on a well maintained modern bike.
Cheshire Police put a speed limit on all their bikes (70 I think) after this crash and a similar fatal in Manchester which also involved a Pan on VIP escort training . In that I believe the suspension bottomed out on a bend causing a loss of control  throwing the bike  and rider into a parked vehicle, bit of rider error there perhaps ? I don't know the full facts so can't say.
I was told last week that the speed limit has been withdrawn as Honda had put the faults down to weight distribution and it had been cured, perhaps that will be reviewed after this Coroners comments.
Whether you're pro Police or not you've got to have 'em. I'd suggest getting pulled by an experienced Traffic cop who knows  riding fast on a well maintained bike, in decent gear can be safe, beats any camera and can often result in nothing more than advice. ( North Wales excepted perhaps)
Sympathy to him, family and friends.

Its interesting because you would think that the powers that be would have tested or thought this through with the bike, but, having said that,my brother in law who was a trainer of motorcycle cops, also had an 'accident' whilst training 'special branch' officers on Fireblades, and his 'off' was on video,so goes to show that no matter how good or experienced you are,you need to watch out,and keep within the limits of the machine you are riding. :-/Also I have the greatest respect for Police riders, they are fookin briliant at what they do,and they like biking too, plus you can learn LOADS from them if you are lucky enough to know one or have IAM training with them.I suspect the weight on this bike was not evenly distributed. :icon_scratch:

I agree with Coxy, I got pulled doing 105 and a couple of undertakes, just picked my zx6 up and was taking it home. The copper was a biker and had a zx7, he liked my bike gave me a producer and a couple words of advice and that was that. I should have lost my licence.

I'm sure I read on another site that it''s down to the top box on them that causes "High Speed Weave".  The wind carries over the riders body and is then disturbed by the top box and therfore causes instability.

I say if this happens to the Police Riders then there's not much hope for your ordinary Joe Blogs on a similar set up bike who would normally only do a couple of thousand miles a year.

There was an article in MCN a few months ago that said that a few Constabularies had suspended the use of the Pans until further investigation had been carried out.
