Gearing for 2005 C2H
« on: July 31, 2011, 01:18:30 PM »

Just gone for a 520 chain & sprocket conversion.  Down a tooth at the front to 16 and up 2 on the rear to 41.  This ratio was recommended to me by a friend who regularly raced Brands Indy which is my local circuit and where I do most track days.  Just fitting the chain up and it seems I need an additional link to stock at 111 but I have to wind out the adjusters almost to the stops which just doesn't seem right.  Presume that this lengthening of the wheel base will affect the handling somehow.  I wonder if I'd be better off with just a 40 on the rear - I guess that this will enable me to shorten the chain to 110 and wind the rear back in a bit.  Can someone explain what lengthening the wheelbase will do for the handling and whether dropping a tooth on the rear will give me the option of a shorter chain.  Cheers guys...

Longer wheelbase = slower turn in but it will be slightly more stable and slightly less wheelie prone.
Not sure on chain links but what you said sounds logical.

Your explanation actually make very little sense.
If your wheel goes all the way to the end of the adjusters at the rear with the new sprockets then you need a SHORTER chain not a longer one.
You should be ok on the standard length - the spindle should be in the centre of the adjusters roughly.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  Why would you need a longer chain?  If you put the new kit on and the wheel is already at the back of the adjusters then this shows that the chain is too long.  Just get a shorter chain, there's no need to change the gearing again  B-)
