Pinlock anti-fog visor question
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:42:27 PM »

Which is better a  Pinlock anti-fog visor system or a fogcity insert? I know they both do the same thing so I am just looking for your opinion,

I can't comment on the Fogcity but the pinlock is excellent

Got a pinlock visor on my new Arai but have'nt put an insert in yet but I do have an old Arai which I use in bad weather which has a fogcity insert which has been in many years and if its put in carefuly they work brilliantly, never had it mist up. I really rate it  :icon_thumright: I know it does'nt really answer your question of which is best but hope the info can be of some help

Pinlock.....by a country mile!

Use in both my Shoei's and Arai's.....work brilliantly for those cold winter mornings or early starts!

I've had both on Shoei helmets. I've found them both equally effective at preventing mist up. With the fog city insert you get a bit more flexibility about where you position it in the helmet. With the pinlock you are stuck with the positions of the pins. On my current Shoei I find that the pinlock insert is significantly smaller than the visor and the position of the pins means that the top of the pinlock is right in my eyeline when I am in a 'racing crouch', which is really annoying.

Had a shoei xr1000 and the pinlock was small and in you line of sight
On the later  xr1100 the visor is bigger and so is the pinlock and it works superbly  :icon_thumleft:

The pinlock has worked for me at a very wet Cadwell Park with heat coming off the engine in a damp/wet Woodland section. The insert never misted whilst the surrounding edges of the visor did. Buy the yellow insert for definition of vision with a clear visor for rain, clear insert with black visor. Brilliant bit of kit.

Yellow pinlock when paired with a HID front lamp also seems to increase visibility of certain vehicles with hi viz markings at increased distances....
As someone else said, the newer XR1100 Shoei lid has a larger area covered by the pinlock
