Toll roads. Switzerland/Italy
« on: May 20, 2011, 07:05:42 AM »

Im looking for advice from anybody who may have traveled through Switzerland and/or Italy recently.
I have a contract to deliver a customers bike to the South of France (from Germany) and I will be traveling down through Switzerland and Italy.
If I use toll roads in these 2 countries the riding time will be 8 1/2hrs. Avoiding them extend the riding time to 14hrs!!!
Does anyone know what the toll charges are for using these roads?
Any help gratefully received.

Howdo Kev, for Switzerland you need to buy a vignette - a one off fee for the year, get a free sticker for the hassle, which you need to put on ya bike, if it's in ya pocket they will still give you a penalty. It's around 40chf = 30Euro.

Italian motorways are all tolls roads, no idea on the price, but if you use Googlemaps to plan your route, it usually works out the price of the tolls.

Daft question - bu why do you need to go through Italy?
Can you not hook straight out back across the border and turn due south?
Should keep you in France all the way.

It's what the the germans did in 1939...........

It would put an absolute minimum of 2 1/2hrs riding time on to my journey.
ie 11hrs instead of 8 1/2hrs.
If I avoid tolls altogether it takes it to 14hrs.
