Hello from Wirral Merseyside
« on: May 16, 2011, 01:33:20 PM »

Finally took the plunge and bought myself, for the first time a brand new bike and it had to be zx10r 2009 model in pearl white but registered for the first time last month so is on an 11 plate.  Love the bike already done 1000 miles and fitted a ventura luggage rack and bagster tank cover.  Dislikes are the buffetting at speeds over 90 mph and position of front foot pegs

Alright mate, you wont be too far from me then! I swapped the oe screen for a fabri one and it is better (2008 zx10r) not keen on the pegs meself so have a pair of lightec rearsets waiting for post mot fitting (not sure on whether return spring is needed to keep brake pedal up).
Was your bike from Marriotts?

Hi yes I did buy it from Marriotts!    I first noticed it last autumn, then went to other dealers such as Millenium Motorcycles in WIgan, Bill Smiths in Chester; Ducati in Manchester, sat on their bikes but this ZX10r just felt right especially at the price and 2% finance !  My last "big " bike was a Yamaha FZR1000 EXUP which was a truck compared to the Kawasaki but seemed more relaxed at 90+ mph hopefully the double bubble screen and rearsets will resolve that.  Have n't taken it over 11,000 rpm yet, just taking my time.

Nice to hear that there are other ZX10r owners in the Wirral.  Not seen one on the road yet but did see two other white ones at the BSB at Oulton Park the other week!

I modified my bike by replacing the foot pegs with gilles rearsets, but since most of my riding is in and about town hated the way they always dug into my calves at junctions, slow manoeuvres etc so took them off and put the factory ones back on!  Also put on a ventura rear rack and bought a bagster tank cover.

This summer had a fright with the rear caliper mounting bracket cos one day it fractured and went down the road leaving me without a rear brake.  Had the dealers collect the bike for examination but as there was a score on the disk and on one of the disk mounting bolts they concluded that a foreign object must have got lodged bewteen the bracket and disk causing it to fracture.  Anyway they replaced mounting bracket for free - but I had to pay for replacement - and at the same time i went for a 16t front sprocket.  WOw what a difference that makes, makes it much more responsive and fun to ride and would recommend this to all zx1-r gen 3 owners.  Just one question is my speedo now running to fast or slow?
