gearing altered speedo all to bollox tho!!
« on: May 01, 2011, 09:06:04 PM »

Holy shite!!! Ive altered the gearing on my ZX10R to 1 down on the front and up 2 on the rear!! Absolutely feckin mental but the only problem is my speedo is miles out. Do these speedo healers work well? And are they difficult to fit? Cheers  :headbang:

Wow it's the first I've heard of it!

I'm sure it's slightly exaggerated as with a lot of stuff in the media but not good all round

I'm afriad not, with the -1 on the front and +1 on the back my speedo is at least 10% out. I had the missus do 30 to 90 in the car with me behind so I could check. I noticed when I went through a local 60 camera and a lorry went thundering past. I followed him and realised he probably wasn't doing 67 as they are restricted to 60.

The speedo sensor is taken off the front sprocket.
Basically any change in the gear ratio (different front or rear) will cause the speedo to read incorrectly.
I fitted a SpeedoHealer earlier this year and I can tell you they do the job perfectly.
They're easy to fit and even easier to set up. Go for the V4 (the newest version).
The reason they've become so popular is because...
a. many bikes now have sprocket sensors for the speedo (which are put out of whack by gearing changes).
b. They're reasonably priced for what they are.
C. They do "exactly what it says on the tin".
Speak to BDS on this very forum and Im sure he'll sort you out.

I got the tre version which removes the retardation from the first 4 gears, imagine it would make it even more mental with your gearing

?? I've been away from road bikes for a few yrs, is it like the suzuki gsxr in that it only has full power after 5th gear?
Is this all zx10rs or just certain models?

Speedo is out by at least 10% from the factory - changing the gearing will only make it worse.
