Zx10 shock conversion on zx7r
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:44:19 PM »

Guys has anyone done a conversion to rear shock on a zx7r using one from zx10 ?? From what i can gather can be done but have to drill out mounting points to 12 mm. Just wandering if anyone has done it to get a definitive answer as info ive been looking at is a bit sketchy any info appreciated  :icon_thumleft:

not on a zx10r but i put a 2006 R1 shock in my 1986 gsxr1100, made a world of difference, provided the fitments are the same and the length is pretty much the same it shouldn't be too hard.Dont know what the shocks on a zx10r are like and i don't intend taking mine off to look at it either sorry!! lol i had to shave a mm or 2 off the eye on my R1 shock to fit, are you drilling the mountings on the frame or the shock? if the shock is it a bush or bearing?

Not a 100 % sure m8 not sure if its bottom or top mounting holes on shock or the actual mounts on shock linkage that needs drilled out. Was hoping somebody had done it before i spend decent money on a 10 shock and find out it doesnt work. Great handling on 7 but rear shock a bit tired other option is get uprated spring but could get a decent 10 complete shock for same money  :tongue3:

I'm wanting to put a 10R shock on my ZZR. You dont happen to know the measurements of the top and bottom mounts?

Not sure m8 ive to go into main kwak dealer for a part this week im going to get measurements for 10 shock and compare it. From what ive been reading which is quite vague you can use majority of 10 shocks on 7 but cant use 06/07 shock  :dontknow:

you could do what i did and scour ebay for a decent shock  and ask the seller questions for measurements.

It's the holes in the shock that have to be drilled. Lots of info on ZX7R on www.redmonkey.com/7r.

Hi, for the ZZR: If you are referring to the length of a standard ZX10R shock, then I think from bolt hole centre to bolt hole centre (between top and bottom monting points) it measured 339mm on the 2005 model. The Ohlins unit on the 2005 zx10R we raced came as stanard at 339mm and was adjustable a few mm shorter or longer. The Ohlins TTX unit on our 2009 ZX10R came a standard at 338mm and is also adjustable a few mm either way. Thats as much as I know, hope it's what youre after.

Ive bought a zx12r shock seeing as its a big bike thought be better option 7r shock isnt really coping to well with my 14 and a bit stone hits deck as soon as i get on and replacement shock i bought does exactly same  [rofl].
Both in perfect working nick but just dont like my fat ass just have to drill out top and bottom mount to 12 mm and hey ho  :tongue3:
