Tyre Sizes ZX10R 2009
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:15:47 AM »

Hi All

I am looking through fleabay and have seen a lot of pairs of tyres for sale and the profiles are varying somewhat to the degree that the 2009 sizes appear to no longer be the norm and are few and far between
I'm looking at getting 209RR's for a change.

Are you all running Manufacturer stated sizes or has anyone tried a variation on the theme.

2009 120/70-ZR17 & 190/55-ZR17 which is what I intend to fit

I have seen
120/70/17 with 190/50/17
120/70/17 with 180/55/17
120/60ZR17 with 180/55ZR17

I am aware of the reasons as to why people would fit them but has anyone on here and what have you found, better, worse??

Cheers

Stick with the oe sizes unless you are running 180's on track for different profiles with slicks/wets.

190/55 tyres are quite rare on ebay (dont know why) but they are still the norm for this bike. Whenever ive tried different tyre sizes ive usually ended up coming full circle and settling on what was originally specified. The only exception to this was the rear tyre that my brother raced with for the second half of last season - this was a 190/60 slick (as just said) and he liked it but we had a setup that complimented it and these bikes have a narrow geometry sweet spot.

Ive always raced with 195/65/17 and 125/70/17. Due to my silly riding style and amount of lean i like to use.. the extra width of tyre is handy.. However i havnt used treaded tyres for many moons.

Yes they do by quite a bit- hence a lot of guys using 180's.
Give TyreStocks a call in Gosport as you'll struggle to beat Dave's prices - especially for RR's or Sportsmarts.

Track tyres have a higher profile to make them turn quicker.

Picked up the bike today !!
Was throwing it down on the way over so was a bit dubious about riding it on brand spanking fresh rubber.

Have to say, the rain stopped and the sun came out so decided to ride it a little to see how it feels having had the ohlins 20mm cartridge kit fitted in the forks and the new tyres as opposed to the Corsa's I have been using for a long time.

Firstly it was so good to be back on 2 wheels, given the fact the roads were wet I took it easy but could feel a difference, the steering was very neutral from the off and the feedback through the forks was nice although they need a little fine tuning as I found the setting a little firm at the moment but I could feel the gyroscopic effect of the front wheels in the turns for a change, something I have not noticed before but was nice to be able to feel what it was doing.

Once I found a bit of dry road I opened her up and the bike felt sweet, smooth and just 'nice' the tyre's though new felt stable and confidence inspiring even through the standing water but will leave it until the roads are nice, clean & dry to clear the chicken strips off  [rofl] to really see what these tyres can do

Well after eating at the Quatt Cafe I made my way home and enjoyed every second of it.

Can't wait for the warm dry weather and the wheeltrax tour in June.  :headbang:
