a heads up on race batteries
« on: February 10, 2011, 11:16:40 AM »

just thought i'd pass this experience on.. I got a lightweight lithium battery (the brand is 'Racing Batteries') for our 09 model. It wouldn't turn the bike over so I rang the shop and someone tried a couple on his own bike - they didnt work either. I was told Racing Batteries have made a big mistake by listing the size I bought as being suitable for a whole range of 1000cc bikes. If any of you want to buy one of these you may actually need the next size up from what is listed. I was lucky becuase the shop I bought from was absolutely fantastic and sorted me out very quickly.

I've just done the same thing, battery arrived yesterday so rung MSS for some advice!!
The small ones are designed to work without the starter motor as run by nearly all the race teams,
the next size up are used for the TT/road bikes where they have to run a starter motor for pit stops etc....
the difference is the small ones don't generate enough power to turn the starter motor over
Awaiting phone call from MSS to sort out a different one hopefully
