Hi just a brief note, got a niggling feeling that my crank is off on its way out. done 10k miles and between 2k and 3k revs got a sound almost like a cross between preignition and a noisy shim bucket. Has anyone had a crank go at a low mileage as 10k or any ideas to what it might be ? Great when in the higher rev range and pulls like a freight train between 7k and 11k. I've had problems from the beginning with the bike and from the dealer and they've just renewed the head gasket. :crybaby2: Any ideas from anyone much appreciated

I don't recall anyone having that problem, perhaps it's something else. Personally, it's hard to diagnose an issue like this on a forum as it could be one of many things, I suggest to get an independent mechnic to have a listen to have a good stab at what is causing what you are hearing/feeling  :icon_thumleft:

Doubtful a crank going at 10k even if you've never changed the oil once but you never know i guess  :icon_scratch:

Something very off there - the description sounds like "pinking"
BUT - if its just come back from the dealer then I'd be straight back there with a fookin big scowl and a bucketfull of questions.

Its a long story but got the bike in september supposed to have had full service and got 12 months MOT, goes for a ride and drops all its water which has been on going with the leek since I've acquired it. Went to local BMF rally a week after getting it and brake pads were metal to metal, 3 weeks in still water leak  so took it back in, then just before xmas picked up after they'd said they'd done the head gasket and replaced the exhaust valve which wasn't working at all. I'm a motor car mechanic by trade but something doesn't sound right with it. Legally they've done all that they've described and refuse to give money back. I love my ninjas and don't want to get rid just want it sorting. Where I got it from are a honda main dealer but supposed to be able to work on anything. Wondering if they've either timed chain out by a tooth or maybe snapped a ring putting new gaskets on. Reminds me of a sound of cross between a few things pre-ignition, piston slap, crank wear or when a cam chain stretches and just allows the valve to ever so slightly touch a piston. either way it looks like I'm going to have to strip and rebuild the motor. I know the clutch basket rattles but had enough bikes to know that it isn't that. So anyone any ideas how long a crank will last with being hammered untill it gives up?? :dontknow:

Bollocks have they done enough - if they have done all that and there are still issues then legally you have the right to "reject" the vehicle.
Either that or you can appoint an independent to inspect it and the cost and any rectifications can be charged back to the supplying dealer.
Had something similar with a car we bought brand new that went back 14 times to be diagnosed/fixed and in the end they had to give us a spanking new one again along with the costs we had incurred.

Go to a consumer forum and they have loads of templates on them for this sort of thing.
Its an official rejection of the goods.

Yeah got consumer template sent it no reply looking like small claims court which was route didnt want to go down. Trading standards useless there is another option which im seriously contemplating,  a nice trip on bike with some of the guys  :boxing:

Ill have to phone trading standard guy tommorow to see what hes saying sent 3 letters stating action would be taken all recorded. No way im walking from that totally hacked off next step will be a solicitors letter he will soon get message not backing down. As you said they expect people to back down and forget about it but one way or another he will be paying for damage or taking it back.

I would have taken it straight to vosa m8 but i left for isreal next day to work for 33 days. Got a 4 month old baby partner needed  car to get about i had to put a set of 4 falkens on, wasnt letting her drive with 4 different tyres and one minced. Catch 22 wasnt going to tell her to stay in house over a month when there was a car on drive. Spoke to vosa when i came back unless you go straight in your screwed  :icon_thumright:
