managed to check out the maps & see where we went....

Route we took (from Geneva) took us along the Simplon Pass, Furka Pass, San Gatthardo - turning off at Andermatt & on to the Oberalp Pass (awesome bit of tarmac...sweeping corners, low traffic, plenty of room to open the throttle), then from Chur down to Davos, & on to the Stelvio. Took 3 days to do the trip.....2 to get there, than 1 lllooonnnggg day to get back in time for work on Monday.

Recommend staying at the Nepalese gaff at the top...great views, good food, basic diggs, & you can ride up in the evening when there is no traffic, and get on the road first thing...before the feckin' camper vans start. 

I'd guess you should not find snow in July.....but I was surprised r1flyguy hit some in June  ...tho probably not as much as he was.

A friend on another forum I am a member of did something similar and went to Stelvio via Davos in July this is what he experienced in July in Davos


But Stelvio was clear.

The route we took was from lake Garda, along the SS12, SP73 (unbelievable biking roads), SS42 towards Ponte Di Legno then the SS300 towards Bormio.

Check out the road at the town on Santa Caterina Valfurva  this is where we could go no further as the snow was coming down heavy and it was -2 degrees, with huge slabs of snows drifts just waiting to take you with it off the edge of the unguarded 2200m (7200') drops 

There are some exceptional biking roads around Lake Garda so do not dismiss this location either

Did the alps a couple of years back.
Had huge fun on the way up the pass and then had a crackin' snowball fight in a blizzard at the top.
That was the last weekend in July 
I guess a lot of it depends on how high you are going (and a bit of luck as some passes stay 100% clear and others right next to it get it really hard).

thnaks for all the replys chaps its good to hear peoples stories , ive got a rough idea of where we are going and cost and it looks like my tight arse mate might be coming after all!

if anyone does have any more stories or advice it will be greatly recieved, and the pics look awsome by the way
