Volvo XC90, plenty of torque with the D5, very reliable , luxurious inside but tough as old boots , brilliant :icon_thumright:

If ya just want the 4x4 without the drawbacks try any Audi quattro, my last 4 cars have been quattro's, 3 100 avants and now a 95 2.8  A6 estate quattro, I didnt get stuck once in the snow, great grip in the wet with bulletproof build and normal car handling add to that the space once the seats are down in the back. Then there's always the S6 or 4.2 S6+ . I have a brand new diesel Scenic and its been out for the first time since the snow this week as my old Audi beats it in every way!

I had a Pathfinder for a year....loved it!  Great motors and built like tanks.  Comfy and a nice place to be with all the toys you get.  Only spec to have is the Aventura. And in black ;-)

Well just back from hols in Bulgaria. Day started at 0330 this morning and flight landed in Newcastle so had to drive up to Jockland in the scenic. After a day on coaches and planes the thought of cramming all into the renault, 5 x cases, 1 x 10 year old with rucksack full of toys, 1 x wife with huge handbag full of, well not too sure just stuff, 2 x 6ft 2 teenagers with knees up around ears & 1 laptop, 2 x snowboards, boots etc, etc and me full of 7 days worth of cooked breakfasts and 3 course dinners I'll def need something bigger. Have a roofbox but it's a pain in the %$* to remove bike racks to fit it. will now be spending a fair few hours on autotrader researching all your recomendations.   :occasion14:

Stopped in Berwick for a 'comfort break'. Bikes were out tearing into the town centre.
Plenty out on the A1 too, though no sports bikes. Starting to see loads of 4x4's though, every other car  :icon_scratch:
Never paid much attention to them before, must be 'cause they are on the mind. If I can afford it, the Volvo looks a good choice and has the gentleman farmer image. Will fit well on account of me being a Laird and all.  ;-)

Short list drawn up and test drives started.

Yesterday should have been xc90...............sold by the time I got there

Didn't want to waste the journey so set off in a 2.7 diesel auto jeep cherokee. Looked ace, loaded with allsorts but how the **** do you drive these????????

Felt like driving a hovercraft in a gale force wing after a bottle of the good stuff.  [rofl]  I was all over the place, with pedestrians diving for cover.

Not for me but experience was good for comparing the next one too.
