There's a lorry full of birds and it weighs X amount, if the driver taps on the side of the van and all the birds inside start to fly around. Does this make the lorry lighter?

Apparently this has been baffling scientists for years

What do you reckon?

I now know the answer and will tell you all later unless someone explains it first

This sounds like the fly that sits on the inside of your windscreen of your car, whilst your on the motorway, travelling at 70 mph.

If the fly starts to erm fly does that mean that the fly is flying at 70 mph?

  Not quite the same. The fly is flying at normal fly speed inside the car. Imagine if you opened the window and threw the fly out, would he still be flying along so easily?

Ah but if he was on the back window and flew to the front window whilst your driving at 70, then quantum physics would dictate that he had travelled farther than you did in the determined amount of time and therefore he must have been travelling faster than 70 mph.

But the air inside the car is no doing 70mph

If you lean forward in the car you are travelling at over 70mph then

The other one is when that a fly can stop a 200 ton train. 

As the fly hits the front of the train it stops for a nano second upon impact.

Now that's a fact.

The Lorry's mass stays the same but the weight would change i.e. if the truck weighed 2tones and each bird was 1Kg and there was 200 birds. When the birds are not flying the lorry would weigh an extra 200kg. If the birds were flying the 200kg is not on the truck. But the mass of the truck stays the same. This depends if the truck is on earth or in outerspace............ this is to heavy for a Friday night.

I did have a fly to prove it, but it errrr got squashed hehe.

I know, Discovery channel can be a dredful thing with a limited retention rate

no proof just logic if the weight of the birds was resting in th etruck there is axtra weight but if the weight is off the floor of the truck the weight is gone. unless you get into down thrust from each wing and the airpressure puts the weight back onto the truck.   Is this at sea level or at what altitude.
