Colouring rear light
« on: December 05, 2010, 09:13:26 AM »

Dont think this has come up before so here goes....

Is it possible to colour the clear/white rear light lens to red?

I've seen a couple of rear lights that have had a dark tint (almost black) but not seen any in red.
Any ideas anybody?

Horse might be your man, he has a man that tinted my tail light and indicators last year.

They were tinted black but don't see it being a problem with a red dye rather than black

I can get them done, just send them to Chris (Wiz) and he can forward them on. We can sort things from there.

Well if YOU can get them done why not just send straight to you? Who does Chris need to forward them on to? Not you by anychance? Have you moved to the moon and he has a spacerocket in his backyard? bit arse about face that. And if its not you he's sending them to then you dont need to get involved at all really...

Kev you can get clear/translucent paints from model shops. TAMIYA do clear red/orange/blue/yellow/green even a smoke colour in spray cans to suit plastics/model rc cars that dont need primers. i've used the smoke colour before to tint the windows on a clear rc car body so would be the effect you're after. infact i've just given myself an idea if only one could self bhp! LOL

I have done them in the past, removed any lettering using fine wet and dry and scotchbrite the lens, I used 2 pack clear with a drop of whatever colour I wanted the tint to be, if you have a spare light to practice on then give it a go.
