Its Top Gear so you can bet the BMW will bet switched to wet map! They'd never show a bike beating a car!

I remember being in my Golf GTi and racing a lad on an R1 through the twisties.  Not far off, and we had a right giggle at each set of lights.  Straights he left me, but easily made it up on back roads.  Wonder what it would be like in the R32 (4WD) ha ha.

Have to be honest, unless you a fecking BSB rider on roads you know.  Most decent powered cars can keep up with bikes...does sometimes piss you off.  The difference is on a straight most things are fucked.  If you nail it, an proper nail it in 1st...you'll be pulling 100+ in 4ish secs.  Not 60 in 4secs like the cars.

Once rolling again, the torque of cars helps.  Any Physicists in here will explain about rolling motion/inertia etc and why you would need something like 4 or 5 times the torque to pull away noticeably.  Two years ago on Autobahn I remember a certain group of 10's (me, Hammy and ChrisZx10r) being flashed by a Audi S8 at about 175+ MPH.....we did have luggage on though. HA HA

However, cars will never make me feel alive as much as my 10R.  And I've driven some pretty nice cars over the years, and nothing is even close.  They make me smile, Yes!  They make me chuckle, Yes!  And the sound of V6's and V8's gives me wood.  But honestly....I'd take a bike anyday.

Here endeth the lesson.

Well, sure enough the Atom won. But, looking at how close it was and the time the Atom posted, i reckon the bike would have beaten pretty much everything else!
On a happier note, I REALLY enjoyed seeing the VW Beetle dropped from a mile up in the air! If only they'd do that with every piece of crap that VW has ever built!!!!!

yeah was abit of a set up 150 grand car against a 12 grand bike , and broggie didn't look like he was pushing like he does when racing that atom pretty much a race car would have been fairer against a race bike with similar money spent on it

Im sure the big showboat wheelies werent the fastest way of getting round the track either!

Andy, maybe "VW crap" was a little harsh. After all, theyre no worse than Fords or Vauxhalls. Perhaps overpriced and over-rated is a fairer description! Beetles were all crap tho, I stand by that one!

Just watched it, the car got the bike on the brakes, and Steve Brogan has limited knowledge of the track, he had a few laps with Tff before the race. MCN say the bike was within 1 sec of the car.......but still faster than the Buggati.
