Number Plate Revoked ?
« on: August 01, 2010, 09:41:59 AM »

I had a pull in Exeter services in February (yes I know - dirty bugger & I wasn't dogging [whistle]). They didn't pick up on my discretely displayed tax disc, dark visor and non road legal Akra, but concentrated on my 9x3 plate.
They allowed me to run along with a warning and logged the plate giving me a 'The DVLA can revoke your plate if caught twice' speech.
I have tried (not very hard though) to find info on what happens if your plate is revoked but it seems very vague - can you re register your bike with a different number or Q plate.

Anyone know the score on this?

Also, I hope theyre not all like anal 'STERANGER' on this forum I came across - sorry found - whilst googling an answer for the above http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=67785

N.B they also questioned the legality of my dark tint double bubble  [rofl] [rofl] - of course I was very polite with the explanation!

I noticed that The DVLA do reserve the right to withdraw any personal plate, on the documentation i got when i recently transferred one of my personal plates.  Don't think they have to give any warnings first, but would imagine they would i also don't think the DVLA would go out of thier way to enforce this, as no one would buy the majority of plates they offer for sale. Without a little bit of a slight variation,  from the number pate format rules, they would be useless and read / say eff all and no point in buying them.

I've been nicked once in over 4 years for my plate, by a traffic cop,  just got a small fixed penalty fine at the time.

if you continue to break the law with your plate then yes they can withdraw it,private or not leaving you the only option of registering the bike under a Q plate, which would then decrease the value of said bike.

question is,is takng 2 inches of a reg plate worth 2 grand off the value of your bike?

why would the a Q plate de value the vehicle? there will be documentation explaining why the bike is now a Q plate, nothing more than the owners fault

You  won't get a Q plate - you will get the original plate or an age related plate.
The Q plate would come if there is no way to confirm the year of manufacture.
ONLY if you continued to flout the rules would you THEN get a Q plate

Is it worth running the risk of a small plate now, I run what that is only 1'' small in dimensions, Think I might just swap mine back over to original plate although it looks kak! :pottytrain2:

Mate of mine had  R16UNT confiscated from his R1! I'll leave it to your imagination the spacing and where he put the yellow screw.

DVLA owns all registrations, they also have the right to with draw any registrations (private or not) if they are not displayed in the way the law requires them to be.  Upon them withdrawing your registration you will get issued a Q plate and probably a substantial fine.  The Q plate will devalue your vehicle as people associate them to stolen recovered or some other shady business.

I run a 8x6 private plate with as close to standard size lettering and spaces and have never had a problem.

Yeah standard is a 9x7, so I am only slightly smaller and it looks a lot better than standard.  I like to think I an bending the law not breaking it but it is the police offers discretion.

The smaller you go the more likely you will end up in hot water
