What track bike? On a budget...
« on: July 26, 2010, 04:28:48 PM »

Ok... So I have my 09 ZX10R which is in for a slight repair and think should another mishap occur it would have been better to have spent a couple of k on a track bike instead!

So, given a 2k budget or thereabouts, what would you buy??

I am quite keen on a GSXR750 or ZX6 or even an early R1

Given I'm 6'1 and 'ahem' 14st what best suits

There quite a few on EBay to choose from too

personally id go for an early R1 aswell loads about so shit loads of parts available everywhere the only problem ive been told bout them whether its true or not i dont know that the bottom ends of anything older than a 03 R1 arnt the strongest and prone to failure but if ur budget will stretch to a couple of grand should be able to get one thats been takin care of wivin reason

pretty much all the gixers hold their money realllllllly well i saw a completly bog standard K1 1000 wiv only race fairing and that was for 3500 so think u might strugle to find evan a 750 wivin budget

Keep an open mind and get the right bike when it comes along within your budget.
Wouldnt get fixated on any one make or model.
Even seen guys havin a right hoot out on track on Yamaha trx850's!

Keep it simple, cheap spares, nothing too precious.
It aint wot you've got etc....

I had the first of the injection model R1's (see my avtar) and really liked that so would consider one of those again  :icon_thumright:

really want a track bike myself but don't want to sell my 10 (can't have both). having a year away from road riding next year and doing just track days. suppose its more expensive to convert a road bike to track bike. can't afford to spend any extra money on track plastics etc.
what do you lot think?

That is a consideration  for me also  :-/ but do I really want to track my 09 10R?? Thing is, I already did and the result is a 1k repair bill, that 1k that I could have spent on a track bike but now goes to restoring my bike back to new!

Track bike will have to go in garden too as no room in garage (car & bike already in there)

Also considered buying from salvage a damaged repairable, I know the considerations for this, still in no hurry, so may be ongoing project for next season

As nice as they look and sound, i couldn't get on with the one i test road when they first came out, still like them though but just to look at.

Narrowed down to poss a GSXR750, 2002+ R1 or 04/05 ZX10R (those these are still commanding big money)

You could do a lot worse than a well set up gsxr750  :icon_thumleft:
would be my choice of the 3 you mentioned.
