I used to ride one of these but it had all terrain tyres on and was good fun off road, though i do know what you mean it is a little gutless, engine was faultless though considering the crap i put it through 

Good luck with the tune, be interesting to know how it goes and how different it feels

The DRZ 400 engine was designed by Pops Yoshimura too which is why it's bulletproof 

and that also means Yoshi do a full set of internals for it 

Pleasantly suprized as my first Suzuki since my GT185 in 1981 that the quality overall is very good.

I've got a 52 Plate DRZ400E which i use for green laning, best mod is called the 3X3 where they mod the air box and re-jet the carb, go on Youtube and type in 3X3 Mod, there is a bloke that shows you step by step what to do
