Got pulled over earlier :'(
« on: July 11, 2010, 04:47:36 PM »

 Got pulled over today, police officer steps out of his unmarked silver BMW Estate (VX08OCN) and looks a little pissed off with me, something like this -    [naughty]  :boxing:

However to set the background, going through the village at 40, i was S'ing down the road, trying out my suspension, and handling after getting new seals put in. National restriction comes up, and i pin it open in 1st and front wheel rises a few feet passed a silver estate (one above), front wheel touches down, a bit of a wobble and into second pin it open passed 3 cars, then into my lane when i notice these blue lights flashing from said estate a few hundred metre's behind me.

Knowing it was me he was after i indicated straight away and slowed up, and found somewhere to pull over, as i came to a stand still he was out the car and walking towards me.
Helmet off, gloves off, bike turned off, music paused, and getting my licence out, knowing whats coming next. However he asks do you like your driving licence? i reply yes, quite a bit tbh. He then says well, 6 points for dangerous driving, 6 points for speeding, 3 points for number plate, 3 points for exhaust, 3 points for race only visor. Which accounts to 21 points, thats this licence and the one after gone!!!

Now i am trying to hold back the tears (thought of no riding the  zx10r) and think of excuses to try and get out of it. I came up blank.

He then starts telling me about his job as a forensic traffic officer, and how he hates having to sit in court reading a 30 page manuscript about a dickhead who was being stupid on the road and killed themselves and others. And watching the pain and anguish in the families faces. But he said the worst part was scraping the pink matter off the ground.

So now i am shitting myself royally, he then continues to ask how long have i been riding, and what i have ridden. While waiting for the DL check and vehicle check.
We then start discussing my job, and how i am close to graduation yet could potentially go to jail for 3 minutes of riding. and my life would be over.
The details all come back correct and i was pleased something was going right, whats the old saying, light at the end of the tunnel.

He starts to question my riding abilities now, and albeit i was slightly offended i took it with a pinch of salt. He asked whether i had done any further training after passing my test, i told him i had done the bikesafe course they offer,  knee down school, and that i was looking into IAM training, and that i had also recently looked into purchasing Road Craft, a book used to teach people safer driving. And also some motorcross to learn how to control power slides and not to bin it.

After all this he then gave my licence back and said, stop being a twat and live my life, there is a time and place for it, do it on a track, to which he gave me a verbal warning, got in his car and drove off. I was heading the same way so took it very easily, 55mph in 6th gear just in case. so tonight i will be buying myself some lottery tickets. But shows how lucky i was that the officer was in a good mood, and didnt throw the book at me.

[clap]  fackin'ell you were lucky to have such an escape, but sounds to me that a 'chat' and education about what he deals with when it goes wrong plus scaring you shitless with how many points/ban you COULD be looking at is better than giving you a hearing in court, that way I 'spose you'll learn to proceed with a little more care and the right attitude which ultimately a decent copper would want rather than writing a ticket and doing the paperwork that goes with it.

That to me is how policing should be, I realise it wouldnt work with some of the arseholes the police must have to deal with but in certain situations a good bollicking and some advice does far more good and creates a lot more respect towards the police as far as I am concerned.

Thought "Jeez, this guy is a dick" (the copper not you) till I got to the last bit.
Fair play to the bloke considering what he'd just seen.
Think the way you played it helped enormously tho bud.
Most coppers know that bikers are trained to a far higher level than joe public. If you'de been even 1% arsey he woulda locked you up and thrown away the key but as you took it all on the chin I can only applaud him for reading the situation as he saw it and treating you accordingly.

thing is i knew i had done wrong, and reason for posting this albeit makes me look like a twat, but to show after all the bad press the police get. It shows that there is a few who are sound, and if i had got 6/9 points for the exhaust, plate, n visor, as he could prove those not the rest (video wasnt on) i would have taken it. as i deserved it.

according to the officer it is, if it says for race use on the side, and you dont have a different one. my clear one got cracked by a stone, so all i have is a mirrored one
