04 ZX-12R
« on: May 29, 2010, 11:30:38 AM »

Hi guys, been offered an 04 ZX-12R, totally rebuilt, sporting wavy discs and a bespoke Beowolf exhaust, along with a new paint sceme. The bike has been garaged after project finished (for the past year I think) and only has 5k and change on the clock. This is the guy that does the servicing on my bike as and when I need it and I trust him. Am waiting on the pics to be emailed, but the guy is asking for around 4 grand. Any initial thoughts? Cheers  [whistle]

Nice bike and good price. I had the 2000 model a few year back and i can honestly say the bike is awesome its a missile from 3rd gear on.

Thanks for the backup guys, nice to get some vindication. Not sure that it is for me, moving up from a 6R and wanted to go for a litre bike, something which will actually end up being smaller to ride than my 2000 model 6. Additionally (and despite the fact it is a custom job) I'm not entirely sure I can live with Candy Apple red, even with the additional imagework on the side panels. At 4K for the bike the middle option is to get it and get another custom paint job on it, green or black design.

Would appreciate knowing how different it is to ride compared to a 10, especially in the twisties?

They are very quick in a straight line, but they are also about the size of a bus and they are distinctly old tech. Handling is only OK at best and hard work for many.

If you are looking for something you can easily flip from side to side like a ZX6R does - the 12R is NOT what you want .......

Charlie, thanks very much for this - again, useful support for what i had already thought. I will be commuting about 33 miles each way daily on my next machine, but not carrying much more than a small daysack.

Update on the bike: It has 5,700 miles on it, all standard parts are available for re-fitting if required. The paint job is custom, the brake lines are Hel braided. In short, the bike is cleaner than clean.

For those in the know, what sort of trade in (very ball park) might I get for it against a new 10R?
