I reckon you may know me then if you joined in 2001... do you know a cockney called Arron from south London he joined in 2000 to 2001

I think you would of Joined just after me , I started in brunval platoon in 99 in phase 1 then got back squaded cause one of the screws though it might be funny to launch me down a hill on a tab ended up cutting my need open on a rock and then passed through with Tamera platoon... I got to Battalion Aug 2000

I would give him as much encouragement as you can, i never went into regular but was in weekend warriors which i enjoyed, i have a few mates who were in marines and paras and also a few in the dagger with wings club.
Its something he can never get or experience in normal civi life  :icon_thumright:

Thats very true but if he doesn't then he may regret it, wishing he had done. I think it all boils down to the what do you want out of it in the end?

I'm still serving in the paras and it was definitly the best thing I ever did joining up! I was just a spotty 18 year old with no future till the reg made a man out of me.

It's the greatest life experience any man will get and the friends you make will last forever and seem like family, not to mention a half decent wage and somewhere to live.

I also know alot of marines who love it and I have to be honest if I hadn't joined the paras
I would of gone to the marines

Allo fella , didn't know there was more Para's on here when did you join .. What Battalion you in....

I was in 3 Para , though Got out in Jan 2004  :icon_thumright:

Do you by any chance know Tony Jones? He is a scouser and was in 3 Para, served in the Falklands?

Lots of good and interesting posts here with quite a variety of views. He is even more determined know after speaking to big-gaz the other evening, all motivated and buzzing!
Don't know what you said to him pal but can now get him to pick up his grotty trainers from behind the door?!   :icon_thumleft:

His mum is not too keen on him succeeding as she had 2 brothers in the forces. This is only natural, and if I am honest  I am a wee bit concerned myself.
I'll support him 100% though and I'm sure it will be the making of him if he gets to and through basic training.

Good on you John. I am in the Navy myself and take it from several of us who know, every good soldier, sailor and airman needs a loving and supportive family behind them and to come home to. Be under no illusion, and as I'm sure your good lady wife will tell you, people don't join the Armed Forces, families do. My parents were against me joining up, but once I had they were very supportive and that meant the world to me, especially through basic. Good luck to you all.  :icon_thumright:

Pleased to help Jon, have texted a young lad I know who went through training recently, he said he is more than willing to chat, he's in America on exercise at the mo!

Many thanks gaz, got your message tonight.  :icon_thumright:

The number you have was mine and David is out with friends at the moment, typical Scot eh, to tight to use his own credit!
He is taking the training more seriously now, the more interested he gets, the more I want him to do well. His mum is still a wee bit concerned though.  :-(

Fingers crossed he keeps the effort up and does well with the advice everyone has given him.

3 of my workmates were RM's - Tony Blunsum, Scouser. Kevin McCusker & Kerr Meekison both jocks. Maybe you  have come across them during your service?
Another one - Mike Kane - bit of a fanny though.
Many thanks again gaz and take it easy,
John
