Any Royal Marines?
« on: June 25, 2010, 10:05:44 AM »

One of my sons is going for a PRMC in a few weeks. His girlfriend's not happy and is trying to put him off but his mind seems to be made up. Any serving or ex commandos got any useful tips I can pass onto him?

Cheers.   :icon_thumright:

Big_gaz on here is still serving in the RM's....he's a an awesome bloke so PM him as he may be home or onshore.

Few ex's RM's on here though, but a lot of Paras, Reme etc!

Personally, I would never deter anyone from joining the forces.  Fair play, and hats off.  Hope he gets in, and for some blokes is the making of them.  Forces life is a great one, even though every now and again you'll get some rag heads shooting back at ya!

Highly cynical. My brother was in the forces in Italy. One woman. He said he made sure she never went by making sure she came !

I have no personal experiance neither do i know anyone in the forces, but i do watch alot of telly.

I remember watching paras it was a docementation of newly listed up paras going through basic training right up until they qualify and get their berets. Each week you could see the benefits, team work, loyalty and so and making them better men. Even the later stuff like bad lads army just watching them louts turning themselves around and seeing them pass out at the end.

As PSG said if he is not commited from day one then he will be rooted out in two mins, but if he makes a good crack at it it will be the most rewarding job ever. Can you imagine a better feeling than seeing your son marching through a village on return from a tour of duty.

On a slightly sombre moment, there was a soldier from our town who was tragically killed in Afganistan and recently there was a charity funding event and his parents are so proud of what he acheived in his short  life.

To be honest you can make a living at most things construction, IT, motorsports or whatever.  If i had a son or a daughter and they wanted to sign up i would be the proudest dad ever.

I'm still serving in the paras and it was definitly the best thing I ever did joining up! I was just a spotty 18 year old with no future till the reg made a man out of me.

It's the greatest life experience any man will get and the friends you make will last forever and seem like family, not to mention a half decent wage and somewhere to live.

I also know alot of marines who love it and I have to be honest if I hadn't joined the paras
I would of gone to the marines
