Nice article there and a very special piece of kit.
My personal opinion is that electric bikes are a dead end (at least I hope so).
The problem is that ppl will insist on calling them "Zero Emission". Where do ppl think electricity comes from? 
Now Hydrogen power, thats a completely different kettle o fish!

That thing was flying past everything on the course  It's a shame his MotoGp creation came to nothing I think he's Americas answer to the late great John Britten and the worlds a more interesting place with these leftfield geneous's

I wish someone would pick up on the Britten idea and create a road bike. That thing was incredible!

Saw the Britten race at the TT a few years back and it was awsome ,ahead of it's time although Mark Farmer being killed there on it really was a big blow for John and I possibly think it knocked the wind out of his sails . Wheather he had any plans to make a road bike out of  it we'll never know now. .... But I still wear my Britten sweat shirt with pride now and again, actualy bought in NZ by a Kiwi mate

It really gets on my t1ts this zero emission sh1t. Do the politician's think everybodys head is zipped up the back and we can just "grow" some electricity in the garden without creating any emissions ?

Even these wind turbines are "in the same boat", what about all the emissions created during manufacture, transporting to site and installing them. It will take forever and a day for them to "pay for themselves" environmentally !

so you have a power stations creating one set of emissions and then you have thousands of vehicles that create another set of emissions

if you get vehicles to be zero emissions then you are cutting out 1 set of emissions

so not really shit is it

am not agreeing with them by the way just stating why companies are trying to be more eco friendly

plus all vehicle makers are hounded by governement and european leglisation

Agreed, you are cutting the vehicle emissions but what about the "extra" emissions produced by the power stations to create the electricity for the vehicles ? It's not just as simple as zero emission vehicles, the power has to come from somewhere !

The problem comes when you do a comparison with say a small multivalve car.
A 1.4 can be manufactured and run for nearly 10yrs BEFORE it has the same impact as a Honda Prius BEFORE it EVER gets charged up for the first time to be used FFS!
The Lithium is dug up in the states, then transported to be purified - this takes MILLIONS in electricity to do, then shipped to china to be made into batteries, then shipped to Japan for building, along with all the alluminium, plastic, steel, etc.
Work out the air/sea miles of all that and tell me that they are "eco-friendly"

I'm not saying you disagree. All I'm saying is that far to many people, not all, think that when the media in general and the politician's call a vehilcle zero emissions that it is "zero emissions". It's not, somewhere along the line emissions are being produced to create whatever is needed to get it the vehicle from A to B.

It is "reduced emissions" !

And like you say it's a "subjective topic". I watched a documentary a few years ago that said ALL of the emissions produced by ALL of mankind accounted to 4% of the greenhouse gases being produced. The biggest culprits are volcanos, there's no solution to that.

I know there is 2 sides to every argument but if you listen to the "people in the know" they would have you believe it's clean cut, mankind is causing the problem.

Bollocks ! It just gave them an opportunity to create the "green tax".
