Braking markers/points just dont exist on the road. Judging corner entry speed does.
Its all about watching your vanishing point and adjusting your speed accordingly to the conditions of the moment.
(Other traffic, weather conditions, road surface, junctions and about a million other things that can affect your safety on the road).

I ride my tour routes on a (very) regular basis and have done over the course of the past 8 years.
Every single time I go around a bend that Ive probably been around 100 times before I assess it as if it were the very first time.
Its the only way to stay alive when youre getting a lick on.

You are right in saying Shadow that you can use a technical approach to your riding. I was tought the Police System of riding over 25 years ago and I now ride with a mix of that system and racecraft (Ive also done a full season of national racing). There is obviously a cross over of techniques that can be employed.
Dont get me wrong flyguy. Im just trying to avert a potentially disastrous scenario.

I guess the easy answer is to seek training. The top riders in the world train constantly to improve their (already) superb skills. Why shouldnt we?

What course did you do with the police as there are 3 levels?

point 2, I agree with you entirely, like I said I think he knows what he wanted to ask but not how to ask it.

I have also offered to assess his riding for free if he is ever in the midlands

I recall distinctly that the road conditions around the ring can change from dry to wet in a couple of bends, this also counts for other tracks and roads, so constantly changing conditions eh!!! 

Assuming you are referring to the Nurburgring, that is a road mate, not a track and like any road  you can't take the same liberties you can on a closed course racetrack. Kev is right when he says constantly changing, you don't get cow shit or a cyclist or horse in the middle of a track half way around a bend. You cant take the racing line on a road without risk and unless you are at donnington then you wont find pot holes or drain covers on a track.

FFS, you guys do take things literally, yes the ring is a road   it's also a track, or am i being picky too, either that or we can call the races there road races when they close it to the public!

ninja, I have been riding a long time and had some of the best training in the world albeit I admit not on track to a degree, so suck eggs springs to mind

I learn something new about riding everyday and never think I am better than anyone else, but if you wish to nit pick as to whats a road, whats a track and how to ride it to an individuals ability then go ahead, i have better things to do than listen to that b0llox

You have got to be kidding!

Road riding has absolutely nothing to do with how its done on the track.
The conditions on road are constantly changing and need constant re-assessment.
But, to put it simply, your point of vision should always be as far forward as the conditions allow.
The idea is you see any potential hazards at the earliest possible moment allowing you to be proactive rather then reactive.

And for Gods sake dont ride thinking "Hmm, Im going to brake there"  Coz its all gonna end in tears.

posted thread because i wondered if it might be better to focus more on a marker over a known road, quiet mid-week with decent conditions.

looking too far forward just fcuked up my line (in my lane) on a long RH sweeper

.....and just back right off if i cant see through turn after hitting marker if there is a truck coming other way.

nailing a corner is ace and i want to do it better
