confused about my breaking marker (fast road)
« on: May 04, 2010, 07:21:16 PM »

i've set myself up for a RH bend...speed, road position & bike settled

Q. is my primary visual the imaginary breaking marker - & then tip in/look through the turn ONLY when i've reached that.

Q2. if view through bend is obscured by traffic; do i just back off?

well to put it through some common sense, theres no point looking through the bend until you hit your braking marker, how else will you know your at it  :?:

as for Q2. :icon_scratch:  your not serious.

seriously,if your trying this hard on the road, get yourself on track, you'll live longer.

Grab & read a copy of Roadcraft......

It will answer all your questions and then some  :headbang:

If your still having trouble and you can travel to the Midlands, I'll go on a ride with you and see what your trying to do and give you some advice  :headbang:

Braking marker on the road???
You have got to be kidding!

Road riding has absolutely nothing to do with how its done on the track.
The conditions on road are constantly changing and need constant re-assessment.
But, to put it simply, your point of vision should always be as far forward as the conditions allow.
The idea is you see any potential hazards at the earliest possible moment allowing you to be proactive rather then reactive.

And for Gods sake dont ride thinking "Hmm, Im going to brake there"  Coz its all gonna end in tears.

just trying to take a more clinical approach to my road riding (i've read 'The Pace', Roadcraft & Twist of the wrist)

out the other day from hampshire/loomies cafe --> Petersfield and got my line a bit skewed through a long RH sweeper because i was looking straight through the corner too early; using a b. marker may have helped?

guess more trackdays for this stuff  :-S

How long have you been riding on the road for? I don't need to think about anything like this, I see the corner and get around it.

Hmmmmmmmm !!  :icon_scratch:

So braking, poitioning, being stable, selecting the correct gear and looking ahead, is not something you bring to a track then!!!

I recall distinctly that the road conditions around the ring can change from dry to wet in a couple of bends, this also counts for other tracks and roads, so constantly changing conditions eh!!!

I think ZX10Rshadow has basically just asked the right questions in the wrong manner.
