Just my opinion, but I think that if every car driver does a stint on a bike of any form, they will realise how vulnerable we are to muppet manouveres, like the one I had a coule of weeks ago.

Filtering at 11mph past traffic on stop and a lovely BLONDE decides she's not sitting in traffic and duly turns the wheel and pulls accross the road in front of me.
I had to lock the back and almost the front to stop about 6 inches away from her drivers door.

All this because she failed to check her mirrors or even indicate.

I just think that peoples observations whilst in control of a 2 ton steel box would be better if they could see it from our point of view.

erm yeah actually you have a good point there..... still wouldn't like to be the one who would have to do it if i didn't want to ride a bike. maybe a virtual thing could be done..... like a 20 minute virtual ride  :icon_thumright:

Agreed, maybe not such an intensive test more of a "Good practices Test" to make sure that people are, well using good practice whilst on the road.

I do think that bike and cycle awareness needs to be extended into driving lessons and tests......... most people don't want to ride a bike so it'll never happen, awareness is all that we need and loud pipes sort of help in my opinion. Old bikes and twins make a racket but we've been pushed to almost silence.

Lights are now fixed on on bikes but pipes are far too quiet, I would prefer to see fines to misuse of exhausts i.e. reving in built up areas and anyhow loud pipes do alert the police to a speeder don't they so why not just make pipes luder rather than look for the impossible, there's reason too in my book and add awareness maybe by the way of forcing the watching of a video on safety and real accidents in the test perhaps  :dontknow:
