Query regarding Rear wheel balancing ???????
« on: April 15, 2010, 08:52:36 PM »

What is the most weight that any of you guys has had to add to a rear wheel for balancing , the reason i ask is i have just put some tyres on the 10 (super corsa's) which i got part worn from my mate who races , so i no the history of them , how many laps etc.
My bro also got a pair (he has a blade) and when it came to balancing both rear wheels it's calling for 60 ?
I have never had so much added before to any bike or tyre/wheel combo .
Is this really out of the ordinary or not that unusual ??
Had the bike out today before i balance the rear and it's fine to 130 ( wound smoothly up to get a feel for  any changes to the bike ) then you start to notice the bike vibe .

Also spoke to my mate and at the northwest last year he was adding up to 80 and this was having the wheel checked as well and checking balance after doing some warm up laps etc.
Any info much appreciated .

Yeah, 60g not really over the top. If it bothers you, you can always try turning the tyre on the rim a bit and see if that helps but tbh i would just leave it as is.

Yeah there should be a dot on the tyre this is the lightest part of the tyre , put the bare wheel on the balancer find the heaviest spot , Put the dot with the heaviest part of the wheel i find is usually where the valve is , This should reduce the weight ..

I fitted a rear dunlop and mixed the dot up while on the phone wanted 70 knew i had fooked up moved tyre around 5gms sorted it out .

:iamwithstupid: what Lee said. The dot should be pretty near to the valve  :icon_thumright:
