Have to agree the paint match is very poor

but nonetheless, the job to date is fantastic, very jealous  :icon_thumright:

Just so you know there is 2 paints on the 06/07 frame - the mains side spars are a metallic spark black which is the same as the 04/05 fairings BUT the rest of the frame and swingarm are just a standard low gloss/satin black.
Hence the reason I used BMW Metallic Spark Black on the 09 arm for mine as it is nice and sparkly.
Make sure though that it has been "cut" back after the laquer though as you won't get the correct colour until you have done this. Use a proper cutting compound to finish it off and then a damm good wax to seal it.

Not necessary to cut it back if you use the right mix of clearcoat and matting clear.
Alternatively, you can achieve the right level of satin finish by adding talc to ordinary lacquer. Just try test pieces til you get the finish you want.

Jamma - he doesn't want matt - he ordered the 06/07 frame match colour and they sent him the base matt not the metallic side rail colour.
You do still need to use cutting compund with a base/laquer colour otherwise all you'll get is a gloss with no sign of the metallic underneath.

The colour, including the metallic flake, is in the basecoat, the level of gloss is in the clearcoat. The frame is a semi gloss finish which is best achieved with a 50/50 ish mix of clearcoat and matting clear. The metallic flake will still show through even a 100% matt finish.

But thats the issue - they sent him the plain satin black that the frame and swingarm are painted in NOT the metallic that the side spars are.
The side spars on the 06/07 are different to the other frames in that they are metallic black.
The 04/05 are satin black all over the 06/07 are metallic ONLY on the side spars - nowhere else.

Looking forward to following this build, my kind of stuff  B-)
Is the arm the wrong shade of black, or is it too matt?

The arm is ok just the wrong shade of black (lucky for me the gloss black wheel takes your eye off it.. It's more a low shine black.
The plan is to get every thing set up and start using the bike. I have a huge list to complete
Swingarm fit (machine all the spacers which i have done)
shock, chain, wheel alignment, which is pretty easy with the aid of 2 lazer pens ill stick to the rear wheel. (Everything is spot on buy the eye)
Fit adjustable dog bones (machining already done)
quick action throttle
R1 6 pot brake fittment.

After summer strip out and fine tune any issues.

I see what you're getting at now. Sorry, misunderstood what you were saying. :emb:
