Bit of advice needed.

I bought a car from 2nd hand car dealer last November (Pug 307 55 plate 25K on the clock)

 The car started to leak oil a few weeks ago and I took it back in. Dealer said he would get it fixed and pay for it. When I got it back he said the cam seal (or crank cant remember which) was replaced.

 A couple of weeks after and the leak is back and it looks like its coming from the same place.  I presume because he has tried to get it repaired once that he has accepted responsibility? Also I would not be happy him taking it to the garage that attempted the 1st repair.

 Would I be able to take it to a garage of my choice to get it sorted again and get him to pay?

In short...yes!  But he should be given the opportunity to rectify it again...

My next door neighbour had exactly same situation with a 4x4 he bought and turned out head gasket had gone.  Similar situation to you...said it was fixed and nothing.  so after various rows, threats and usual "Ain't my problem mate, sold as seen" and all that malarky, he took it to trading standards and local CAB.  They both advised a letter, recorded delivery, outlining the issues and that he has to either fix it, pay for it to be fixed or for full reimbursement.  So in your case, I would imagine the same applies.

You can always get an independant inspection done, and if it costs, pass on the invoice to the dealer.  All adds to the claim.

or he may say you never gave him a chance to fix it ....so im not paying the bill . :dontknow:

crank seal with 25k gotta be cam seal i reckon we just replaced one on a 206 2004 gotta be careful as usually spits all oil on the cambelt causing it too go brittle might not be now but defo in a few months id take it back to them ask which one it was replaced  :icon_thumleft:

Headgasket gone at 25k???????? only if it was a rover maybe  [rofl]

two words - french cars.  :shock:

they really are horrendous. know loads of people who've had dramas, even myself indirectly thru the wifes cars. they're all the same - citroen, pug renault   :crybaby2:

cam seals, cambelts, fuel injection faliure, dodgy lights/electrics, coilpacks - the works. and never again. [naughty]

german all the way. maybe consider a jap one but it'd have to be special not some old pakified done up m reg turquoise civic if you know what i mean.

The car we had was leaking from the head gasket common pug problem no need to skim or pressure test head . Will require head gasket set and they show no sign or oil water mix and will not get hot just a horrible oil leak drivers side. Trading standards all the way just get some legal advice before going in with the  :boxing: . They have to sort this for free to be honest especially if main dealer good luck buddy . They should of realised what problem was in the first place they should know their job . Not your fault
