IIRC they can indeed request your recording equiptment there and then and if you dont you can be arrested and they take it anyway, so it's generally better to comply.

Not many have had this happen but I've heard it can.

but in answer to your question, yes they can take the gear and view the footage if they have reasonable grounds to believe a crime has been or may be committed. Any evidence would be admissible in court .

Yep, riding 65mph in a 60 zone would be totally outlanding behaviour, and a great way of them nabbing 60 quid.
