If you are a regular offender - they will make a special effort to catch you, often by sticking a car (marked or unmarked) in that stretch and watching for you.

The camera's they use BTW have such high resolution that they can blow up the front of the bike and your riding kit to a very, very high level. All they need to identify it positively are three unique markings. They can be stickers, stone chips, tears etc. That'll be enough for a speeding charge to be issued.

Forward facing  average speed 'scamera' only get the front obviously,  camera vans are different as the fat sweaty little pig inside could read your number plate from behind if he's quick .

If you or one of your riding group are ever involved in a serious incident, they call up evidence from those camera's already. There was an incident up here last year where a rider in a group was killed near Squires cafe at Sherburn.

The police successfully used those camera's to prove the route taken by the riders, calculate the average speed they all travelled at (it was very high) and to successfully prosecute all the riders in the group with death by dangerous .....

Big brother has been watching you for quite a while ......

Has anyone seen them flash? I'd have thought they'd be pretty bad spotting number plates on bikes to average the speed out

They calculate your average speed between two locations. They do that by performing license plate recognition at both points. However, I've seen them flash - presumably to record proof that the vehicle was speeding. License plate recognition isn't an exact science, so you'd think they'd need photographic evidence in case of any disputes.

Do these cameras work at night?  Front numberplates on cars are not lit and with the glare off the headlights, can they see your plate?

The B*stards are spending a whole pile of cash on putting special rear- facing average speed cameras on the "Cat n Fiddle" ready for this spring/ summer, specially to catch bikes, loads on the web about it. Could have spent the money upgrading the road.
