accident
« on: December 08, 2009, 02:47:21 PM »

just witnessed an accident , 50ccscooter turning right on the roundabout , your stereotypical grey haired old biddy failed to give way [naughty] . girl on the scooter was lucky ,the impact was just behind her leg . she's a bit sore but no serious injuries . loved her riding kit though , nylon trousers slip on shoes , coat , no gloves and didnt even do her helmet up  [wall]. you have to wonder sometimes ....

I instruct CBT's at the weekends and the number of numpty's that think that dressing up to  ride a powered two wheeler is no different to dressing gown and slippers. It's not until you highlight how vulnerable we that they take note. Although that doesn't seem the case with this young lady, and not having her helmet done up is illegal.   And sadly we can't do anything about the 'grey haired old biddies' out there except shoot 'em.

it is a problem and kids and grannies on scooters, myopinion is that if they were more aware of the dangers they would prob opt not to ride at all  :-(

they prob feel that the helmet is sufficient and how different is a scooter to a pushbike anyhow sort of thing , until there is a law no one takes notice on th whole  :-/

It 'IS' madness Andy, the DSA state the only 'legal' requirement for a CBT is a crash helmet.  However, in elements 1 and 4 of the CBT I always hammer home how important dedicated motorcycle clothing is far better than 'fashion' items of clothing, the protection it offers etc etc etc, also make them aware of how vulnerable they are to other road users, conditions, weather, road surface etc etc etc......................then you see the expressions of terror, and it seems what you've taught them goes right out of the window when the confidence has grown and they haven't got and instructor yakking in their ear piece.

There's a guy regularly overtakes me at close to three figures on a Triumph Sprint, and he doesn't wear gloves   It doesn't bear thinking about the consequences.

What about making it a  legal requirement to wear the correct saftey clothing ??

Its easy to spot people riding around with short's and a T shirt !!       On the spot fine ??

Always makes me laugh in the summer when you see numpty sports bike rider in shorts and T shirt, don't worry about a nasty gravel rash on your skin, its the rate bone gets worn down by Tarmac (my mate is a paramedic)

What ever the weather i'm always fully kitted out, you can't take the risk :icon_thumright:
