WTF?? insurance related
« on: November 24, 2009, 06:07:12 PM »

Im soooo confused.
had an accident on thursday, polise bassicaly didnt give a sh..t and decided not to get involved so nobody knows whose fault was it. I think it wasnt mine and the other person involved has got her own story and she thinks it wasnt her fault either.
Called my insurance company (equity red star)and reported a claim. And now interesting part: yesterday morning bloke came to assess damage of the bike, couldnt tell me much at the time but suggested bike will be written off. TODAY SOMEBODY CALLED ME TO ARRANGE PICK UP OF MY BIKE!! i didnt get any letter or anything from insurance company yet, no phone call nothing and already somebody is ready to collect my bike?? wtf??
do u have any idea whats going on?
i assume they want to get my bike, strip it and sell it but why i didnt get anythng from insurance company? will i get any offer from them?

can anybody explain to me whats going on?? :icon_scratch:

something similar happened to me a few years back.
i crashed the bike (highside) no other party involved though . phoned insurance and gave them the details , next thing is a guy is on the phone asking when and ware he can pick the bike up , no phone call from the insurance company to say this would be happening!
so phoned insurance company and asked what was happening - told that the bike was being colledcted to have an assesment of the damage by loss adjuster then i would have been told what was going to happen to the bike. BUT  if it was going to be fixed it had to go to an insurance approved garage for repair (which the guy picking it up was not ) as any work or more damage done to the bike would not be covered by any sort of warrenty ? ie your fucked mate ! .
in the end i sourced the parts my self and fixed the bike , cancelled the guy coming to collect it who wanted to wait for it charge me for the callout !
I would definitley call your insurers mate and would find out exactly what is going on and ware your bike will be going / kept .
only when you crash /damage your bike do you find out just how good your insurance company is. cheap policy or expensive when it comes to handing your premium cover back to you they will always always try and screw you over !

bike has been inspected and assessed already!! yesterday morning bloke came, made some notes and pictures. couldnt tell me for sure what will happen to the bike but most likely will be a write off. I think insurance company made decision about it already or he did but they just didnt tell me about it.  what was really shocking is i had no idea and somebody already wanted to pick the bike up. welll bike stays in my garage and i wait to hear from my insurer.

That does seem like a very very quick response from the insurers, almost too quick.  It normally takes at least week for an assessment and collection a week or 2 after that, with paperwork in between, often even longer.

There are loads of very clever scammers out there, but even if its legitimate, as the others have said, get the insurers to commit to a figure in writing.  If you are not happy with the settlement, you can challenge it and prove that the bike is worth more by showing service history etc.  Dont let them rip you off mate.
