Theyre the Devils instrument and he plays a wicked tune.

Im totally with you on cameras. I got done a few years back (1997) on me way home from the MCN Butlins weekend.
Everybody knew the rozzers would be out in force (like they do) so we knew not to do "anyfink stoopid".

Well, there I was trundling through a 40 limit in a village being a good boy. Village came to an end (just fields left and right of me and nothing but open road in front). Wacked her open about 2 seconds before the national speed limit sign. "FLASH".
Same as you, pleaded gulity despite the sneeky circumstances and was landed with 180 Quid fine and 5 points for 62mph in a 40. Wankers.  [wall]

If they put cameras on the entrance to built up areas and not on the exit I'd be all for em. Plus near schools, play areas, hospitals etc obviously.

Just glad the feckin things are a rarity where I live. Specially the way I ride  :angel4:

Agree with you there Kev........near schools etc havnt got a problem with them.

There are loads round here though  that are on 'safe' stretches of road where there are no or very few accidents.

hope i dont sound like a twat but

speed limits are speed limits, yes we all break them from time to time me being one of them but when i get caught i'll hold me hands up and accept my reward

if i get caught doing whatever speed im doing in that area then that is my fault and not the fault of the camera position etc etc

makes me wonder why so many people get so pissed off when they get caught and call the police all the names under the sun for it

at the end of the day stick to the speed limit or accept the results of speeding as its noone elses fault but your own

oh well, i sounded like a twat after all  [rofl]

youre 100% right Chris. When I knew id been caught i thought it was well sneaky positioning a camera right on the limit of a built up area (going out) but i thought exactly as youve just said. Limits the limit and all that.
2 points:
1. the positioning of the camera had absolutely no effect on road/public safety. Annoying.
2. considering I was heading in to the nothingness of lincolnshire countryside and not into a built up area I think 5 points and 180 quid fine to be bloody steep for the offence.

And yes you do sound like a twat  :tongue3:

 [rofl] cheers kev

yeah i know what you mean by over the top fine etc and think that its ott what you got

but they are sneaky and will sit where they know that people will speed up before the speed limit and visa versa, there is a point on a dual carriage way by me thats 60 and drops to a 40 as you go over the brow of the hill

the coppers sit on the other side and get you as your still slowing down but over 60 and bam your done

you just got to be aware and realise what they are like

Just wish they would stop calling them "SAFETY CAMERAS" and call them what they really are

REVENUE MAKERS!!!!

Its not just the cameras but reducing speed limits to 50 MPH...there are several roads round here that have been changed to 50 for no apparent reason. Yes there have been accidents on them but no more so than other roads that have not been changed.

All you seem to be doing now is looking down at your speedo checking, rather than looking at whats going on on the road. Surely this is not improving safety?

I have spoken to several traffic cops who do not agree with the 50 limits!!!!

What pisses me off is the way they throw the bok at ya for something that is a relatively minor offence. I read recently about someone in Scotland getting clocked at 166 mph. No reports of any accidents, didnt hurt anyone. 5years ban and 9 months in prison!!!!!!!! WTF! Not really a case of the punishment fitting the crime now is it. I bet at least 90% of us on this site have done that. Do we really deserve to be buggered in the showers? I dont fuckin' think so! The legal system sucks and those that enforce it are too spineless to do anything about it.

166mph is hardly a minor offence dude esp when you know the speed limit is nowhere near it

sorry if you dont want a 5 year ban and 9 months in her majestys finest hotel then dont do 166 mph, quiet simple really

but tell ya what, lets say he lost control on a public highway with you coming in the opposite direction and he plough'd head on into the front of your car killing your wife and kids and leaving you serverly disabled

yeah i know it didnt happen but it could quite possibly and easily happen

take your head out of your arse and realise the somewhat bigger picture buddy

if you want to ride at those speeds then go do it where its allowed to be done

quite simple really

Its a very minor offence compared to kicking someones fucking head in on a saturday night. And you dont get nearly so severely punished for that. I assume you ride a zx10 and know what you are doing on it so im sure you realise, although you wont admit it, that there are roads that you can do 166 on perfectly safely. We dont all have the luxury of having a track on our doorstep, its a 200 mile trek to my nearest, and none of us buy litre sportsbikes to stay within the speed limit so get off your high horse or go sign up to the Royal Enfield Diesel owners club forum!

correct i own a zx10 and yes i also have a track bike and yes i exceed the speed limit and do so at my own choice and at no point have i or will i say i dont

my point is if you decide you want to break the speed limit and thus break the law then you then have to take what ever punishment that is thrown at you even if you dont like it

and so you know i dont own a high horse

The problem Chris is that the punishment does not fit the "crime".
They take the piss where bikers are concerned far too often.

but we know this and yet still go on about it when we get caught

if people dont like the punishment thats given then be more careful is my point

guess thats to hard to grasp tho  :dontknow:
